WHAT IF I GOT BAPTIZED AS A BABY?
HOW OUR PASTORS ANSWER THESE COMMON QUESTIONS!
1️⃣ WHAT IF I WAS BAPTIZED AS A BABY?
If it was a real Christian church, then your parents were seeking to honor God by committing you to Him---but that wasn’t your baptism. In the New Testament we are told to believe and be baptized. (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 8:12)
👉So our answer is yes, you should be baptized as a confessing believer not as a baby.
Baptism is a crucial step that every follower of Jesus must take to declare allegiance to Jesus. It breaks ties and allegiances with the darkness. (Colossians 1:13; Romans 6:4-6) It marks your freedom from slavery to sin. (Romans 6:6-7) It advances the Kingdom of light.(Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42) It identifies you with Christ publicly just as you union with Christ inwardly (Romans 6:3–4).
2️⃣ SHOULD I LET MY CHILD BE BAPTIZED?
There’s no “right age” for baptism in the Bible.
What matters is not age but understanding. Baptism is for those who have personally believed in Jesus and are ready to follow Him. (Acts 8:12; Romans 10:9-10)
We’re not looking for perfection
or full grasp of every theological truth—but a genuine grasp of the gospel, personal conviction of sin, and faith in Jesus. (Acts 2:38-39; Matthew 18:3-4)
Children can absolutely be saved and baptized.
But we don’t rush them into a decision they don’t understand or one they’re just making to please others. (Galatians 1:10; Luke 14:27-28)
There's no one right age.
For many of our leaders, it's so important that their kids fully understand that they are purposefully waiting until their kids are older. Others have allowed younger kids to get baptized upon a credible profession of faith.
